Our charitable efforts
Charity is a vein that runs deep within the Park Leisure business. Whether it’s our Directors setting out on an intrepid cycling mission, our Head Office team tackling a fundraising challenge, our parks hosting fundraising events or even our owners raising money - we like to give back.
Throughout the years we have raised money for various charities and have lost count of the amount we have raised. Calling on business partners, staff, owners and the general public, we set ourselves a fundraising target each year for our chosen charity.
Charity of the year
We are delighted to announce that our chosen charity for 2016 is Walking With The Wounded.
Last year we raised over £14,000 for our chosen charities Delete Blood Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis Society, and this year we've set ourselves an even more ambitious target!
We’ll be supporting Walking With The Wounded throughout the year, with fundraising events and charity challenges across each of our parks. Plus, our Board of Directors will be undertaking a marathon cycle challenge from Cornwall to Northumberland, taking in Herefordshire, Anglesey, Lancashire and Yorkshire along the way. Training is already underway!
The challenge is complete! Read about the Directors' mammoth charity cycle ride here:
Who are Walking With The Wounded?
We’re incredibly excited to support this wonderful charity in 2016, here’s a bit more information about them:
Founded in 2010, Walking With The Wounded exist to raise awareness for wounded people from the armed forces, and ensure they are not forgotten.
Young men and women serving in our armed forces can, and do, suffer some horrific injuries. When they return home they face a very different future to the one they had planned, with challenges they never imagined on their long road to recovery. Walking With The Wounded want to show people how remarkable these soldiers are, and show how they face their future with the same courage and determination which they demonstrate on the front line.
In order to keep our military who have been injured in the public eye the charity undertake inspirational expeditions to demonstrate the fortitude and bravery of our wounded. Not only do these show how extraordinary the team members are, but they inspire others who face disability and daily challenges.
Walking With The Wounded fund the re-training and re-education of servicemen and women, both Veteran's and those leaving The Armed Forces today. They finance new qualifications, education and training programmes for those who are injured, to help with their career transition. The charity also heavily focus on providing homeless war veterans with shelter and basic needs.
