Help Select Park Leisure’s 2017 Charity of the Year

We’re thrilled with how much support we have had this year in our fundraising efforts for our chosen charity Walking With The Wounded, and would love for you to help us choose our 2017 charity.

Take a look at the six charity nominations selected by our Directors, and why they have been chosen.

Gary, our Chief Executive Officer: Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Charity. ‘Cancer is a horrible thing, no matter when it strikes, but for it to strike a child is just unbearable. I really like the way Candlelighters split their donations between family support, respite/child wellbeing treatments and research. I am proud to put this forward as my 2017 Park Leisure charity of the year nomination.’ www.candlelighters.org.uk

Candlelighters support families facing children's cancer in Yorkshire. They get involved in all sorts of different projects to help ordinary families who are facing extraordinary circumstances.

Phill, our Sales Director: The Multiple Sclerosis Society. ‘With my brother suffering from MS, this is a charity extremely close to my heart. I really hope you have no experience of this condition, but if you have, you will know how debilitating and life shattering it is.’ www.mssociety.org.uk

The MS Society is a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, volunteers and fundraisers. They offer support to sufferers through the highs, lows and everything in between, as well as driving research into more – and better – treatments.

Jo, our Financial Director: The Association of Air Ambulances. ‘I think Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond summed up the importance of the Air Ambulance after his near fatal crash in 2006 while filming for the show’: ‘‘When you're critically ill or badly injured as a result of an accident, speed is the essence of saving lives. The ‘Golden Hour’, as it is often referred to, is the critical period in saving a life. The air ambulance saved my life by airlifting me from a wrecked jet-car to intensive care in just 15 minutes. I'm alive today thanks to its crew.”   www.associationofairambulances.co.uk

The Association was established as a representative trade body for the organisations forming part of the Air Ambulance services in the UK.  The Association and its members provide a rapid response to life-threatening situations.

James, our Operations Director: The Lily Foundation. ‘Shona, my partner, and I have a close friend who has benefitted so much from this fantastic charity. Everyone deserves the right to the physiological basics in life, and this charity fights to give hope to some of those who are most vulnerable.’ www.thelilyfoundation.org.uk

The Lily Foundation was founded in Lily's memory, having lost her battle with Mitochondrial Disease at just eight months old. The charity aims to give hope, answers and support to the many other children and families that face the challenges of this disease today.

Olly, our Communications and Customer Relations Director: Shelter. 'My home is my castle; a place where I can feel safe, secure and contented.  Especially working in a company like Park Leisure that requires you to have a second home to own one of our holiday homes, I am passionate about helping those less fortunate than myself to have this basic, fundamental human entitlement.'  www.shelter.org.uk

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through advice, support and legal services. Shelter campaign to make sure that one day, no one will have to turn to them for help.

Miles, our Managing Director: Cancer Research. 'Almost all of us have been affected in one way or another by the sickening cancer disease. I can’t believe that we still don’t have a cure and I really hope that one is just around the corner.'  www.cancerresearchuk.org

Cancer Research is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. They fund scientists, doctors and nurses, and have saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
