For a first time holiday home buyer, the market is full of jargon and can be a little confusing! So if you’re embarking on a search for the right park, the perfect caravan or holiday lodge and you’re faced with the brochures and forms to fill in, we want to make sure you’re comfortable with the terms you’ll be hearing a lot of.
We’re ticking off some of the terms you need to understand when purchasing your new dream home from home.
It sounds obvious when you’re in the know but, if this is all new to you, you need to consider the siting of your home or lodge very carefully. The siting refers to the exact positioning of the home on the plot you choose. The siting of your holiday home will impact light, the views you may have and the positioning of doors.
You might see site fees on the literature you receive while researching your perfect park home experience and you may think that sounds like an expense! Well, it is an additional cost, but an important one! Site fees cover essential works and services to maintain your experience and high standards you’d expect around the park. These can vary by park, as can the elements they cover but as a guide they usually include water, rates, maintenance team support, warranty and gardening/manicured lawn service. They also cover things like park landscaping, street lighting, 24 hour park security and CCTV and refuse and gas bottle collection. Speak to your park team about your fees and what is covered, for peace of mind.
This relates to the style of home you decide to purchase. We offer a range of options to suit your tastes and budgets, so when you’re reading through the options be on the look-out for the varied unit types. Single units are traditionally the luxury caravan model holiday homes, traditionally known as ‘static caravans’ (single because they can be transported in one piece)- though these are a far cry from the holidays of old, these really are redefining the park home experience. Then we have our luxury lodges, sometimes more formally known as twin units because these contemporary homes are often assembled from two pre-built sections. Naturally, the style you choose will depend on your budget and your needs, but our park teams are always on hand to discuss the available options.
If you’re doing plenty of research, which we strongly encourage (after all, investing in a holiday home is a big decision), you may come across mentions of seasonality from holiday home providers. This relates to the typical ‘off season’ many park home companies have which means you’re unable to stay during this time.
