A fun-filled family stay in North Wales

Like many families, after juggling work and home schooling over the last eighteen months, we were really in need of a holiday and a change of scenery, so we decided to book a weekend break at Brynteg holiday park.

Coming from West Yorkshire, we wanted to pick a location that felt completely different to home. When doing our research, we were drawn in by the breath-taking scenery of North Wales, so a caravan at Brynteg was the perfect location, being situated in the foothills of beautiful Snowdon.

Arriving late on Friday evening, we were impressed straight away by the drive up to the park, as you go through the castle wall entrance and are greeted by a gorgeous reception area and water feature. Having the backdrop of the huge mountains surrounding the park, you really feel like you are in the heart of Snowdonia.

Our caravan was really high spec and had everything we needed to feel comfortable over the weekend. It was very modern with gorgeous interior décor and had all the essentials, including a large fridge freezer, dishwasher, cooker, multiple TVs, powerful showers, BBQ and gorgeous rattan outdoor seating. The emergency brew kit was a lovely touch on arrival and the caravan was stocked with mini toiletries, dishwasher tabs and a cleaning kit just in case you forgot anything.

After we dropped off our stuff, explored the caravan and had a quick brew, we went to the Country Club restaurant for dinner. There was lots of choice on the menu, with something to suit everyone, but after quite a long car ride, a big burger and fries was very much needed!

Over the weekend, we took full advantage of being in stunning North Wales. We enjoyed a horse-riding session with Snowdonia Horse Riding Stables, which was an hour-long countryside ride and just a 10-minute drive from Brynteg. It was really fun and a memorable experience for the whole family – something I’d recommend doing whilst staying there!

We had a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon exploring Llanberis lake, which was busy with people enjoying paddle boarding, kayaking and wild swimming. There is a cute little steam train that runs alongside it and the National Slate Museum to explore. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the lake and then more of a hike into the forest to enjoy the wonderful views from above.

Later we enjoyed a meal at La Marina, tapas and wine bar, which served an interesting mixture of Spanish and Welsh-inspired tapas dishes and was absolutely delicious! I couldn’t leave the weekend without tasting some Welsh lamb and it was to die for.

On our final day, we made the most of the sunshine in the morning (before the predicted rain in the afternoon) and enjoyed a late morning walk around the lake at Brynteg and a coffee at the Boathouse. It’s a lovely, peaceful area to enjoy a drink and it was nice to take in the views all around.

We ended the trip by enjoying a booked swim and spa session at the leisure centre on park. We had an hour-long session, and it was very quiet and well-organised. Everyone felt comfortable and we were really spaced out to keep to the guidelines at the time. The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were a lovely relaxing way to wrap up a jam-packed, fun weekend!

Brynteg really does have everything you could want and more from a staycation. If you want to explore one of the most breathtaking areas of the UK and are looking for plenty to do for the whole family whilst you are there, I’d highly recommend visiting North Wales.
