1. Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre - Northumberland Wildlife Trust
What better way to kick off English Tourism Week than with one of the most popular places near Amble?
Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre is nestled in one of the best wildlife-watching spots in the North East, renowned for its spectacular bird life. Right next to the beach, it offers fantastic views across Druridge Bay.
Why not spend a few hours soaking up the stunning nature around you before tucking in to a delicious picnic on the beach - a classic British holiday tradition.
2. WARKWORTH CASTLE AND HERMITAGE
Be king or queen for the day in this mighty fortress crowning the hills overlooking the River Coquet. Set off on the stunning coast walk from the quaint town of Amble, wandering up stream to uncover the fascinating history of the Percy family in this magnificent castle.
Explore the rooms that once were called home by a Dukes of Northumberland, and cast your eyes over the stunning views surrounding the castle walls for a picture perfect moment.
Druridge Bay is a stunning seven mile stretch of sand running from Amble to Cresswell and is a great place to explore. Ride, cycle walk, paddle or surf your way around the bay, soaking up the peaceful nature surround you.
The park includes meadows and woods to wander, a visitor centre with toilets, a cafe and gift shop, it’s the perfect destination to break free from the daily grind.
Pay a visit to the traditional coastal village of Amble and uncover its hidden gems woven along the seafront. Its 15 small retailers sell a variety of art, crafts, jewellery, accessories, food & drink. There’s also a seafood centre selling locally caught seafood, perfect for a delicious home cooked meal, they even recently opened lobster hatchery!
Take a walk on the wild side exploring Northumberland’s very own zoo, home to over 50 species of animals and spread out over 50 acres. From farm animals like cows and pigs, to creatures from further afar like wallabies and macaws, there’s a whole host of the animal kingdom to see.
