Get crafty this Easter

With the Easter Holidays upon us, we’re all looking for something fun and crafty to do to keep both the kids and big kids entertained. We’ve consulted with our creative members of the Park Leisure Team to find you eight of our very favourite Easter Crafts. Using some items you can find around the house, why not get crafty with us this Easter!

Great for kids!

Supplies:

• Clear sticky back plastic (if you can’t get hold of this you can use strips of regular Sellotape)
• Coloured tissue paper
• Ribbon to hang your creation
• Scissors

• Start off by tearing bright tissue paper into strips or squares. You can make the paper strips or squares as big or small as you like.
• Next, cut out two rectangles of sticky back plastic the same size. You’ll cut these into egg shapes later so they can be any size you like. We think it’s fun to make a selection of Easter egg suncatchers in different sizes.
• Lay the tissue paper across the sticky back plastic rectangle. You can cover the whole area, leave gaps and overlap the colours too. There’s no right or wrong way to do it and each egg suncatcher will be different.
• Once your coloured strips are in place, stick the second piece of sticky back plastic over the top of the tissue paper to secure it. Then using a pencil draw on an egg shape and cut it out.
• Finally snip a bit of ribbon and create a small hole in the top of your to tie the ribbon. Now your Easter egg suncatchers are ready to be shown off in your window.

Great for kids!

Supplies:

• Watercolour paints
• Card or watercolour paper
• Paint brushes
• White Crayon
• Scissors

• Draw out your egg shape using a pencil
• Using the white crayon draw your design onto your egg, it can be any design you like.
• Using the paintbrush and water colour paints paint over your egg to reveal the design.
• Allow your egg to dry, then to finish cut out neatly with some scissors

Great for all ages!

Supplies:

• Air Dry Clay
• Acrylic paints
• Glitter (optional)
• Sequins (optional)
• Paint pens (optional)

• Start with a ball of clay about the size of your palm and kneed the clay until it softens. Add a little water as you go if needed.
• Once your clay is softer you can start to mould your pot. Taking both your thumbs, press them into the middle of the clay, using your hands start shaping the sides of your dish. Use water to smooth any cracks as you go along
• Once you are happy with your basic shape, pinch one end of your bowl gently until you give it a more egg like shape.
• Continue to smooth down your bowl until you’re happy with its shape. Then leave it somewhere warm and dry to dry out for a couple of days.
• Once dry you can decorate your egg bowl how you like using the acrylic paints and any other materials you have!

Great for all ages! Younger children may need some help.

Supplies:

• Sock
• Uncooked rice (around one cup)
• Rubber bands
• Scissors
• Marker pen
• Googly eyes
• Ribbon (optional)

• Take the sock place it over a tall glass to make it easy to pour rice into.
• Pour all of the rice into the sock, then use the rubber band to secure above the rice.
• Take make the bunny shape, adjust the amount of rice in sections of the bunny until you have your preferred body and head proportions. Then use a second rubber band to secure this in place.
• Using a third rubber band section out and secure a bunny tail towards the base of the bunnies body.
• To make your bunnies ears, cut your excess sock down the desired ear size, then cut the remaining portion down the middle to make your two ears.
• Using a marker, draw the desired shape of your bunny ears then cut along this for your finished ears.
• Use the marker pen to draw on the bunnies mouth and add on the googly eyes.
• To finish tie your ribbon in a bow around the neck of the bunny.

Great for kids!

Supplies:

• Toilet paper roll
• Yellow paint
• Orange card
• Yellow card
• Green card
• Googly eyes
• Glue
• Paint brush

• Using the yellow paint, cover your whole toilet roll yellow. Once dry add a second coat if needed. If you can’t get hold of yellow paint you could use felt tips too, although this is a little more time consuming.
• When your paint is dry, add on your googly eyes, you could also make these from coloured card or using felt pens.
• Cut a triangle out of the orange card to make the chicks beak, glue this on beneath the eyes, then using the orange card again, cut out two feet and attach these to the bottom of your tube.
• Using the yellow card, cut out two wing shapes and attach these to your chick.
• Finally, using the green card, create a circle twice as large as the base of your toilet paper roll then stick this to the bottom of your chick.
• Fill your chick with lots of mini Easter treats!

Great for all ages!

Supplies:

• Yellow paper
• Orange paper
• White paper
• Black marker
• Glue
• Scissors
• Yarn

• Fold the sheet of yellow paper in half, then cut along the fold to give two identical rectangles.
• Starting with one of the rectangles, fold it in half so you have a centre point, then unfold, and fold in the bottom edge to the middle fold, then do the same with the top edge, bringing it into the middle.
• Repeat this action of folding into the centre until you have a 2cm(approx.) strip, then unfold. You should have an accordion folded sheet of paper.
• Repeat steps 2 & 3 with the second rectangle.
• Once you have two accordions, on the last fold of one of the accordions apply some glue and join the two together.
• Tie a yarn around the middle of your accordion and apply glue to the edges.
• Bring the edges around to make a circular rosette then secure them together (some paper clips might help until the glue dries)
• Cut beak and feet out of orange card, wings out of yellow card then attach these to your rosette.
• Draw two eyes then attach and your rosette chick is complete.

Great for grown ups!

Supplies:

• Ribbon/string
• Patterned or coloured card
• Cardboard to create a stencil
• Glue
• White pompoms

• Create yourself a bunny rabbit template on the cardboard by drawing one large circle for the bunnies body, then a smaller circle attached at the top for the bunnies head, then add two ears onto the top for the bunnies ears.
• On your coloured card draw around your stencil. Do this several times with a few different colours until you have enough to make your desired length of bunting. Then cut out your bunnies.
• Using the glue, attach a pompom to the bum of each bunny where it’s tail should sit.

• Then glue the bunnies onto the ribbon equal distance apart and leave to dry.

  Hang your bunny bunting in pride of place.

Great for all ages

Supplies:

• Paper plate
• Coloured paper
• Glue
• Ribbon
• Scissors

• Cut the inner portion from the paper plate so you have the outer portion intact, this will serve as the backing support for your wreath.
• Cut egg shapes of varying sizes and from different coloured paper.
• Add glue to the back of each egg then attach to your paper plate. You can always lay out your design first then add glue once you’re happy with your wreath layout.
• Cut a piece of ribbon and make a bow. Attach this to your wreath using the glue.
• Finally, using another piece of ribbon create a loop and add this to the back of your wreath. Now your wreath is ready to be hung in time for Easter.
