From the 6th to 14th June the UK recognizes national bike week. With the nation working from home, cycling has been taken up by many households as an activity to keep fit and get some much needed fresh air! This week is all about celebrating cycling for fun and fitness.
The UK cycling organisation have found that cycling regularly results in a 46% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and you could reach a fitness level of someone 10 years younger!
How you can take part:
Having fun and enjoying yourself if the main aim this week so there are many ways to take part!
- Challenge yourself to 7 days of cycling. If you’re already a budding cyclist and have been taking the opportunity to cycle during lockdown why not take this week to try get out each day. Find 7 different cycle trails or try to cycle a little further each day and see how much improvement you have made by the end of the week.
- Involve the whole family! Strap on your helmets and safety vests for an evening cycle around your estate or a local field.
- Alternatively, you can fit in your bike rides with a cycle to your local shops to pick up your food and supplies or cycle to different areas to explore around where you live.
- If you’re working outside your home, cycle instead of taking the car if you can! As we are phasing through lockdown the roads are quieter than usual making it a great time to start cycling to work if you never have before.
We hope you enjoy your week of cycling and we would love to see pictures of your participation!
