Holiday Park Terminology Guide

Take a look at some frequently used terms

For a first-time holiday home buyer, the market is full of jargon and can be a little confusing! So if you’re embarking on a search for the right park, the perfect caravan or holiday lodge and you’re faced with the brochures and forms to fill in, we want to make sure you’re comfortable with the terms you’ll be hearing a lot of.

We’re ticking off some of the terms you need to understand when purchasing your new dream holiday home-from-home.

Holiday Park

The holiday park in which your holiday home will be situated is your most important decision. Whilst you research your new holiday home lifestyle, the main starting point is to ensure that you find the right holiday park. Your holiday home is a great base, however, it’s important that the park and surrounding area provide everything you need for your new lifetime of holidays. Whether it’s a stroll along the beach, a drink in the local village pub, or the excitement of finding a new water sport adventure, choosing the right holiday park is essential.

Open Season/Seasonality

If you’re doing plenty of research, which we strongly encourage (after all, purchasing in a holiday home is a big decision), you may come across mentions of seasonality from holiday home providers. This relates to the typical ‘off-season’ many holiday park companies have, which means you’re unable to stay during this time. Off-season which can last between three and six months is traditionally over the winter months. For parks that have an off-season, be sure to check who is responsible for maintenance during the time their park is closed.

However, at Park Leisure we are proud to offer a 12-month season, which means we are open all year round, 365 days a year, giving our owners the opportunity to enjoy all four seasons on park and really maximise their lifestyle investment. Our caravans and lodges are warm and cosy, allowing you to enjoy your holiday home all year round and visit as often as you like. Being open all year round is just one of the many reasons our owners love our parks.

Static caravans and Lodges

A static caravan is a permanently sited ‘holiday home’ on our park. Our static caravan holiday homes come in a range of sizes, layouts, and designs to offer a range of choice to families and couples alike. From a pricing perspective, static caravans tend to have a lower entry price point than lodge holiday homes.

Holiday lodges are bigger than static caravans and will often sit on a larger pitch on a park and be most suitable for larger decking areas.

Pitch

A pitch is the location on a holiday park where your holiday home will be positioned. Holiday parks will have a selection of pitches on park with a variety of picturesque views such as mountains, lakes, countryside and sea-views. Similar to choosing your holiday home, it is important to visit the holiday park to take a look at the pitches on offer. Choosing your pitch will involve not only the view but also looking at the sunlight position and planning your decking to make the most of the great outdoors.

Many parks may also have new developments on site with special features such as water features and walking trails.

Site fees

You might see site fees advertised whilst researching your perfect holiday home and you may wonder what this cost entails. Site fees are an additional cost, but an important one. Site fees cover essential works and services to maintain your holiday experience and the high standards you would expect around the park. These services can vary by park but, as a guide, site fees will usually include refuse and gas bottle collection, park lighting, security, maintenance team support, access to owner services and events, warranty, and landscaping.
