With VE Day on the horizon this weekend, make the most out of celebrating your Bank Holiday. Celebrating 75 years since the end of World War II in Europe, this day will provide the UK with an opportunity to reflect on the great sacrifices made and commemorate this important time with a three day celebration.
You may have had plans with friends and families to attend one of the many VE Day events throughout the country. But not to worry, our tips below will help you plan your very own Virtual VE Day party!
There are so many video conferencing apps to choose from! Google Duo, Facetime, Zoom and WhatsApp are some of the favourites. Take a look online and decide what works best for your party. Think about how many people will be joining and what device you’d prefer to view on, using a tablet or laptop is always more fun than your smartphone as you can see more of your invitees with a bigger screen.
Arrange a date and time for your virtual party and get the word out to all of your loved ones. Make sure you let them know how you’ll be hosting your party so they can make sure they have the app ready.
Get your best glad rags at the ready, you may even choose to put a tea dress on and go fancy dress! Download our house dress kit below and decorate the room where you’re throwing your party with bunting and flags aplenty.
It’s great to catch up with family and friends and have some conversation, but with large groups of people it can be quite tricky to all have discussions over a video chat. Why don’t you organise some games to keep the atmosphere fun and collaborative? You could create a VE Day Quiz, play charades or even plan ahead and have a bake off with all of your video participants. If you’re running a little last minute, why not re-purpose our Movie Quiz or UK Quiz.
You may not be up for holding a virtual party, or you might just have run of time – but that’s okay too. Here’s a selection of virtual events happening throughout the UK for VE day which you can take part in:
