How We Do A 5-Star Veganuary at Park Leisure

Beetroot burgers are a great vegan addition.

Diving into the adventures in and around our 12 parks, exploring the idyllic settings and discovering the hidden treasures of some of the UK’s most beautiful locations - it all makes for hungry work. Luckily, we have six restaurants across our parks, ready to welcome you with menus crafted by our experienced Head Chefs and top-quality service to guarantee a spectacular dining experience.

You’d be hard pressed to have missed the increased interest in plant-based, or vegan dishes, fuelled in part by ‘Veganuary’ - a campaign which aims to raise awareness of, and interest in, plant-based diets by inviting people to ‘try Vegan for January’.

That’s why we wanted to take the chance to showcase what we’re doing to provide luxurious, fresh, tasty options for all our diners, whether they’re taking part in Veganuary or not! As this surge has gathered pace, we’ve been listening and, duly, our chefs have been busy creating more meat, egg-free and dairy-free additions to menus across our locations.

Talking Veganuary … a word with Chris at The Old Storehouse.

This Veganuary, we spoke to Chris Chadwick, Head Chef at The Old Storehouse on our Amble Links park in Northumberland. How is he incorporating the growing interest in veganism to the restaurant?

“I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 42 years now, but have been at The Old Storehouse for just over six months. I’m really happy with the menu; it’s designed by listening to what the customers enjoy, so is packed full of popular dishes to meet a range of tastes. I often talk to diners at their table about any allergies or dietary issues they may have, and work to serve them something tasty and suitable for them.

“With a growing demand for plant based dishes, we wanted to offer delicious vegan options that go beyond simplistic salads and jacket potatoes. Current favourites include the spinach and potato curry, and the beetroot burger. These are tasty and child-friendly, so suit our range of customers, from families to couples and larger groups. The cauliflower steak is also popular, it looks and tastes great.

“Our specials board is a good way to trial new dishes for further menu planning. At the moment, the biggest food trends for us are the basic fish and chips, steaks and burgers; but we are looking at introducing healthier options after trialling them and seeing how well they go down with our customers.”

Not convinced to try Veganuary? Not to worry! If vegan dishes aren’t your thing, the menu at all of our locations offer a range of diverse and exciting options everyone can enjoy, including dishes that cater for coeliacs and dairy-free diners. What can you expect from each of our excellent park restaurants to whet your appetite?

The 5-Star restaurant collection at our Park Leisure locations...

The Old Storehouse Bar & Restaurant at Amble Links has struck up some special relationships with local suppliers, meaning the menu is filled with fresh produce sourced on their picturesque Northumberland doorstep. Their menu is a collection of traditional pub classics including an award-winning burger as well as a range of sharing platters, perfect for a taste of everything.

The Pheasant at Allerthorpe is our latest addition to our family of restaurants, serving delicious food featuring local Yorkshire produce. Who wouldn’t want to sample their award-winning sausages, as well as pub classics such as fish and chips? Perfect for a luxurious bite to eat after a round of golf at their 9-hole course.

The Old Boat House in Brynteg is the perfect setting for an exquisite dining experience, with incredible views of Snowdonia. What better place to sit and take it all in with a lovely glass of wine in hand? After all, it’d be rude not to… as an Italian bistro, you’ll have a true taste of Italy. The Old Boat House’s menu is carefully crafted to enjoy the sun set over the Brynteg park’s private lake - and don’t even get us started on the stonebaked pizzas. They’re an absolute delight - perfect for all the family!

The Old Barnhouse at Malvern View prides itself on a menu filled with home comforts, served alongside a range of real ales. We’re sure you’ll agree that their contemporary setting in Herefordshire is the perfect place to get cosy and tuck into some traditional fish and chips or the pie of the day. There are vegetarian options too, including a new mushroom, squash and spinach pie. And what better than a delicious Sunday roast to end the perfect weekend of memory-making?

The New Inn takes full advantage of its coastal location near Oyster Bay in Cornwall. Its carefully-crafted menu is swimming with delicious seasonal seafood dishes - including their renowned Cornish fish pie, topped with creamy mashed potato. Many of their dishes can also be made gluten free, so everyone can enjoy the delicious efforts of their expert chefs.

Milo’s Italian Bistro at Par Sands in Cornwall is a small slice of Italy on the South Coast. Offering stunning views over Par beach and beyond, you can tuck into an authentic Italian pizza cooked fresh in their impressive clay oven, which takes pride of place in the center of the open kitchen. They also create dairy-free pizzas after a local family told them they struggled to eat out with their son’s lactose intolerance. Now, he has his own dairy free pizza named after him - the ‘Pizza della Hudson’ - and he can enjoy every bite!
