January may have it's chilly days, but there's nothing more refreshing than a crisp winters' walk on a clear January's day.
Kelsey from Pentire Coastal Park loves a coastal walk all year round, has a picked out her favourites for you to try below!
We asked Kelsey, what her top tips were for enjoying a coastal walk in January, here's what she said...
- Always overdress! You can take layers off if you get too warm you’ll regret it if you leave your scarf and gloves behind.
- Take pictures – it will make you appreciate what is around you a lot more and capture a moment in time.
- Invest in some wellies!
- Smile and have fun!
Here's a bit more from Kelsey...
It has been a strange year…and with many places and attractions unable to re-open, you might feel stuck on what to do. There is no shortage of great things to do in the Bude area out of season. If in doubt, walk it out!
I personally think there is nothing better than a crisp cold morning here in Cornwall. Grab your partner, kids, dog or just your coat and scarf and go outside! Because no matter how cold it is, you will still get that warm fuzzy feeling inside while embracing the incredible scenery we sure take for granted!

This is a great walk along the towpath beside the canal where you might even see some ducks, swans and even a heron, so don’t forget to take some seeds NOT bread! I love to stop at The Weir for a hot drink and some cake for a pit stop too before carrying on through the fields to Widemouth Bay. No doubt, you will have the wind in your hair before following the coastal path back to Bude. If you are not a fan of this 10km walk, Widemouth doesn’t have to be on the cards, but make sure the weir definitely is!
Well worth driving to Hartland for this! You can take so many different routes, make it as long or as short as you like! Be sure your take your wellies down here and squelch your way through! It is only a gentle stroll through attractive woodlands so it is definitely one for the whole family!
Overall, there is plenty to do during these tough winter months, whether it be walking on your own or out with the whole family and the dog. It keeps the mind and body healthy too! Because it is a quieter time of year don’t think twice about going to the beach with the dog, just do it!
