York-based Park Leisure has announced it is to support Candlelighters and Cancer Research UK as its charities of the year for 2018.
This is the second year the luxury holiday home company will raise money for the two cancer charities and follows a record-breaking fundraising amount of over £116,000 raised in 2017.
The total was reached after a fantastic year of fundraising by staff at its York Business Park head office and throughout its 12 luxury UK parks, ending with the company’s annual charity crusade – the ‘777 Challenge’. This saw CEO Miles Dewhurst, Director of Communications Olly Gardner, Operations Director James Gourlay and original company co-founder Gary Molloy cycle 700 miles across the length of seven central European countries in just seven days.
The two charities were selected after Park Leisure invited its 400 employees to vote for charities with Cancer Research UK and Yorkshire-based children’s cancer charity Candlelighters coming out as the causes close to staff members’ hearts.
The latest charity partnerships build on the business’ commitment to raising money for worthy local causes, having raised in excess of £350,000 for charity in the last 10 years.
Commenting on the announcement, Olly Gardner, Director of Communications at Park Leisure, said: “We’ve enjoyed a great year in 2017 supporting Cancer Research UK and Candlelighters, and I know the money raised will truly make a massive difference to so many people whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
“We’re delighted to continue this support into 2018 and look forward to raising even more money through the various events planned this year. Social responsibility is very important to us here at Park Leisure and charity is something very close to our hearts. It’s an honour to be able to raise much-needed funds for these two incredible causes.”
Brian Curran, Corporate Fundraiser at Yorkshire-based charity Candlelighters, comments: “We’re so grateful for the continued support from Park Leisure and every single penny they raise really does make a difference.
“Without such generous donations we wouldn’t be able to provide families affected by children’s cancer with the much-needed support that they need.”
Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager, Rachel Speight-McGregor, adds: “We’d like to thank Park Leisure for their fantastic fundraising efforts so far, and for choosing to support our charity again this year. Every donation will contribute towards our pioneering research.”
