Top tips to entertain your pets indoors

We know how hard it can be to keep that pooch entertained indoors, when all they're doing is dreaming of the great outdoors. Luckily, we have experience on keeping our four-legged friends entertained on a rainy day. Here is a list of our top 10 favourite indoor pet games. Enjoy!

1. Find the treats

Grab some treats and let your dog watch you hide these around the house. Give your dog the command to find the treats and encourage your dog to pick them up, remembering to praise them every time they find one.

2. The cup game

Take 3 cups and one treat. Place the treat under one of the cups, shuffle them around and let your pet guess which cup the treat is hidden under.

3. Tug of War

A gentle game of tug of war with a toy will help your pet to release some pent up energy. Letting your pet win will also bring a positive end to the game! Be careful not to allow your pet to grip anything other than the toy with their teeth.

4. Fetch

A game of fetch can be enjoyed indoors or outdoors. Throwing toys down your hall wall, or another safe space, is a fun and energetic game for both you and your pet.

5. Naming game

Teach your dog names for each of his toys. Showing your pet one toy at a time, name the toy, then ask your pet to retrieve it. Once your dog has mastered the names, you can put them all in a pile and see if they can pick out the correct toy from calling out each toys name.

6. You can’t teach an old dog new trick

Well we think you can! Does your dog understand basic commands such as sitting, waiting and giving them your paw? If they do, then it’s a simple step forward to teach them new tricks. Why not

7. Which hand?

For this game you can use dog treats or chopped fruit/vegetables. Pop a treat in one hand, show your dog both hands, let the dog choose which hand the treat is in. When your dog chooses a hand, open your hand to reveal the treat. When your dog sniffs or paws the correct hand open it up and give them the treat.

8. Hide and seek

Play a game of hide and seek with your pet. Ask your pet to wait, hide in another room and call your pet to find you. Reward your pet with lots of cuddles.

9. Brush up on your puppy training

Take the opportunity to keep your pets well trained. Create a session each day where your pet can be rewarded for completing a daily training regime. Your daily training could include sit, lay down, wait, drop it and come to me. A 10-minute session each day will keep your pooch mentally

10. Massage Pooch Parlour

At the end of the day there’s nothing nicer than a massage, even dogs love a bit of pampering. For younger dogs this is a chance to calm them down and show them some love, for older dogs it can help to soothe any aches and pains.
