There is no doubt that the seaside is one of the best places to visit during the summer, yet it is often forgotten during the crisp cooler months. Although colder in temperature, the seaside has a wild beauty that can be enjoyed just as much during the winter months, giving you the opportunity to appreciate it with a new perspective. From coastal walks to quaint fishing villages, and traditional seaside piers, with just the sound of waves, wind, and seagulls, what’s not to love?
Crowded beaches are a thing of the past when winter hits. Blissfully quiet, enjoy the entire beach to yourselves, with the odd winter walker, surfer or bouncing dog passing by. With endless beaches to explore near our coastal parks, you can really take in the scenery, breathe in the sea air and step foot on untouched sand.
While the destinations of our parks are dog-friendly year-round, there are some beaches that have restrictions in the summer months. This isn’t the case in winter! Your four-legged friend can enjoy a paddle in the sea, a roll around in the sand and a game of fetch right along the coast.
Wrapped up against the cold, a refreshing walk can wipe away the cobwebs and feel like an achievement. With miles of coastal paths, frosty moors and picture-perfect villages near our parks, there is a variety of places to head to get that winter walk fix.
Feeling brave? Grab your wetsuit and dive headfirst into the refreshing ocean. Winter is the perfect time for water sports as the waves are bigger, better and less crowded, giving more opportunity to practice.
Watch as mother nature goes wild. When the winter storms unleash their power, waves crash against harbour walls; rain lashes off in the coast and its exhilarating to witness. Take a walk to experience it in all its glory or watch from the warmth of a cosy pub.
After a windswept walk along the beach, find a table next to the fire. We can’t think of a cosier place to spend the winter months than tucking into a hearty dish and getting toasty with the company of friends and family.
